Pirate Treasure Trail

A four-step pirate treasure hunt for children aged 6 to 10: read a mirror map, hoist the flags, cross the shark rocks and count the paces to the chest. It takes about 40 minutes and plays on one phone from a single link or QR code, with no app and no account.

What this template contains

    Read the mirror map

    🏴‍☠️ Captain Crookbeard drew his map in a mirror to fool thieves.
    It says: left, down-left, down, right.

    🔄 Swap every left for a right and every right for a left, then walk from the palm tree. 🌴

  2. step 2 · Colour sequence

    Hoist the flags

    🎶 The crew sings the flag song: 'Two for the sea, one for the sun, one for the crab, and off we run!'

    ⚓ Hoist the four flags in that order.

  3. step 3 · Touch pattern

    Cross the shark rocks

    ⚠️ Only three rocks are safe, all on one straight line through the middle rock.
    👣 You start on the bottom-left rock.

    🌊 Cross in one go, without touching the water.

  4. step 4 · Numeric code (PIN)

    Count the paces

    🗺️ The map says: from the big rock, walk as many paces as you have fingers, plus the toes on one foot.

    👣 How many paces? 🔢 Two digits.

Ideas to make it yours

  • Hide a real chest of chocolate coins and point to it in the last reveal
  • Change the number of paces to match the real distance in your garden
  • Print the QR code on a rolled-up paper treasure map

Questions about this template

Can children who do not read yet play?
Yes, with a grown-up reading each step aloud. The puzzles themselves are made for small pirates: arrows, a colour song, a jump across three rocks and counting on fingers and toes.
Can the chest be a real hidden present?
Yes. Rewrite the last reveal to say where the real treasure is hidden: under the bed, in the garden shed, behind the sofa. Every question, answer and reveal can be changed.
What if the kids get stuck?
Each step has an optional hint that nearly gives the answer, and a wrong answer shows a funny pirate message instead of a buzzer. The mirror map is the trickiest step, so be ready to help there.
Is this template free?
