3 digit lock simulator
Set a three-digit combination, write the clue players read, and try to open it exactly as they would. When it works, publish it as a real lock with a link and a QR code.
1. Pick a lock format
2. Set the answer
Enter it once on the pad, the way a player would.
Answer set: not yet
3. Try it as a player
Set an answer first.
Three numbers are circled on the calendar. Enter them in order.
4. What players read, and the hint
The same two fields the builder asks for. The question is the clue; the hint is what saves a player who is stuck.
Opens the builder on this exact lock: format, answer, question, hint and reveal already in place. You get a link and a QR code; players need no account.
When three digits are enough
Three digits give 1,000 possible codes. Someone typing at random on a phone needs, on average, several minutes to hit the right one, and most give up long before. That is enough when the code is a step in a game rather than the only thing between a player and the prize: a room of a classroom escape game, a card on a treasure hunt, a birthday clue for children.
When the reveal matters more, a proposal, a gift, a result that must not leak, use four digits or more, or a word. The 4 digit lock simulator works the same way with ten times the combinations.
Three-digit codes players can find
- A page number, a room number or a house number that the clue points to.
- A count: how many windows, candles, books on the shelf, steps to the door.
- A short sum: three objects hidden in the room, each carrying one digit.
- A word turned into numbers with the lock code generator, then cut to three digits.

Frequently asked questions
- How many combinations does a 3 digit lock have?
- 1,000: every number from 000 to 999. Leading zeros count, so 007 and 7 are different codes on the pad.
- Can I try the lock before anyone else sees it?
- Yes. Set the code on the left pad, then open the lock on the right pad as a player would. Nothing is sent anywhere until you choose to publish.
- How do I share it once it works?
- Press "Publish this lock". The builder opens with your code, question and hint in place; add a name and a reveal, then publish. You get a link and a QR code that open on any phone without an account.
- Can I change the length after all?
- Yes. The length slider goes from 3 to 8 digits, and every other format, from written answers to colour sequences, is one click away above the pads.
